Love Blossoms

“Oh god, you are badly injured, man!” Niranjana exclaimed as Unmat and Shaambhavi walked in. Shaambhavi had already informed them about his injury.

Fatima bi movedahead and then shouted, “So much blood…we need a doctor.” Unmat was bleeding profusely. There was a deep cut on his forehead.

Shaambhavi held him byhis right arm and guided him towards the bed. This time, there was affection in her touch; Unmat could feel it in spite of his injury. She immediately took out a bottle of Dettol and some cotton from her handbag. “I think we need to call some doctor; is there any nearby who could come at this hour?” She inquired from Niranjana.

Without waiting for an answer, she poured some antiseptic on the cotton and applied it on his cut. Unmat closed his eyes as the antiseptic seeped inside the wound. Shaambhavi clutched his hands tightly in hers. The situation demanded seriousness but this gesture from Shaambhavi brought a faint little smile on Niranjana’s lips as she said, “I will try and see if Doctor Azhar agrees to come, he stays a floor above.” She rushed outside without wasting a second further.

Shaambhavi stood there, her hands clutched over Unmat’s hands. “Is it paining too much? I wish I could do something.”She had a tinge of concern in her voice.

“Yes, you can.” Unmat opened his eyes, a smile hovering over his lips.

“What?” She asked.

“Keep holding my hands like this,” he chuckled as his smile reached his eyes.

Fatima bi laughed as she heard this cute little banter. Shaambhavi immediately shrugged off her hands. Fatima bi came ahead and patted his back and said, “Brave boy…but how did it happen?”

Shaambhavi was standing just at the door of the kitchen, looking back at them. Unmat gazed ather and replied, “I had a fall while I was alighting from a wooden staircase at Chandrika’s house.”

“He is a big liar!” Shaambhavi intervened and stared back at Unmat and then continued, “He saved me from that big portrait.” And she narrated what had happened at Chandrika’s place.

She had just finished when Niranjana entered the room with Dr Azhar. “Sorry to bother you, doctor, actually it’s just a small little cut here,” Unmat started reasoning as he saw the doctor. “Don’t worry; it’s my duty…Niranjana is like a daughter to me,” Doctor Azhar replied with a broad smile. He examined the wound and said, “Hmmm…well…it’s a deep cut and we need to administer a few stitches. I will just be back.” He went out of the room.

“Stitches…and you said it’s a small cut.” Shaambhavi was clearly upset by this.

“Don’t worry. I will be fine,” Unmat replied, seeing her restlessness.

Niranjana came forward and caressed his head. “Dude… how did you end up with such a serious injury by the way?”

Unmat looked towards Fatima bi this time and the two shared a healthy laugh. Shaambhavi stood there pensively, watching all of them. Fatima bi told Niranjana the facts. “Oh my god…my god…someone is playing heroics…huh!” She turned towards Shaambhavi who just nodded her head in reply and went inside the kitchen.
